Camali-an (officially Barangay Camali-an) is one of the 44 barangays constituting the municipality of Ubay, in the province of Bohol, Philippines.

The barangay's total land area is approximately 532.24[2] hectares, with a population of 528[3] as of 2007. In the last 2010 National election, it has 351[4] registered voters.

Barangay Camali-an celebrates its annual fiesta every November 26 in honor of their patron saint.

Location

Located on the western portion of the municipality, Camalian is bounded by barangay Tubog to the north. To the east, it is bounded by barangay Pag-asa, to the south by barangay Hambabauran, and to the west by municipality of San Miguel. Camalian has approximate distance of 12 km from the town center, Poblacion.

History

According to an old resident of the barangay, Alfeo Dusaban, before this place become a sitio or barangay its name was Kalangi-an. They were plenty of mudfish on its little creek and people usually catch fish on the creek during dry season mudfish in Visayan language is langi, thus the area was called Kalangi-an. The place had few households and as a sitio, was named it Kalangi-an, which then a part of barangay Camambugan.

The number of households and the population increased after the passing of years, and the people of sitio Kalangi-an separated from barangay Camambugan and created sitio Kalangi-an to become barangay Camali-an. Until now, nobody knows why the name Kalangi-an was changed to Camali-an.

Government

There are six puroks or units in the barangay manned by the elected kagawads including the Punong Barangay or Barangay chairman.

Economy

People in the barangay are mostly farmers live by planting rice, corn, bananas, peanuts, mongo, sweet potato, cassava, and ube. Some have small lots of agricultural land. A portion of population also weaves mats and amakan, produce palm oil and coconut products.
